In early August 2024, I had a conversation with Paul McMahon, who is a friend, teacher, and retired gentleman from Australia. He is currently living in Nakano and is building a house with his wife.
For today’s episode, please listen to the way Paul uses the present perfect tense to talk about his experience. In English we use the present perfect to talk about things we have been doing.
For example:
“I’ve been teaching English for the last few months.”
or
“I’ve been working at this company for five years now.”
EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #9
The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is how Paul uses the word “alternatively” to give another option. Specifically, listen to what Paul says about studying English near the end of the podcast.
For example:
“You can study English by reading books about grammar. ALTERNATIVELY, you can study English by meeting friends from overseas and having conversations with them.”
